Information Classification, Handling and Labelling Guidelines

The NSW Government Guidelines have been developed to help agencies correctly assess the sensitivity or security of information, so that the information can be labelled, used, handled, stored and disposed of correctly.

The 2015 NSW Guidelines are currently under review and the new 2020 Guidelines will incorporate many of the changes made by the Australian Government in their Protective Security Policy Framework.

This guide shows you how to:

  • assess if information is sensitive or security classified
  • apply Dissemination Limiting Markers (DLMs)
  • handle information which has a security classification or a Dissemination Limiting Marker.
